Watch: Would You Marry Me? Ep 5 Ji-hoon’s Heartfelt Confession to Soo-yeon
Would You Marry Me? Episode 5 has finally arrived, and Choi Wooshik fans and Jung So-min are celebrating. Since learning of his shocking childhood connection revealed in Episode 4, I’ve been counting down until this weekend to watch this intricate fake union between Kim Woojoo and Yoo Me-ri unfold, with me right there every step of the way!
Recap of Episode 4
Episode 4 provided the heartfelt twist we had been hoping for since the show first premiered. It began by introducing Me-ri (Jung So-min) and Woo-joo (Choi Woo-shik), who are trying to manage an increasingly complicated fake wedding while convincing people around them they are actually newlyweds.
The wedding photoshoot locations were nothing short of iconic. In an attempt to avoid being taken in by department store owner Baek Sang-hyun (Bae Na-ra), Me-ri made a surprising move by spontaneously kissing Woo-joo. This shocked Choi Woo-shik in the process but delighted fans as this momentous kiss confirmed their incredible chemistry.
Me-ri later asked Woo-joo to bring back her mother, as she feared seeing her again, to spare her mother the heartbreak she experienced after being so excited at the prospect of their wedding. Me-ri’s kindness showed through even during turbulent times; her mother thought her daughter had married Kim Woo-joo (Seo Bum-june) instead, but was unaware that their daughter had swapped one Woo-joo for another.
In Episode 4, Woo-joo is stunned to realise that Me-ri is his childhood sweetheart, whom he’d searched for his entire life. Flashbacks show them sharing memories and giving gifts like her special teddy bear to help ease his sorrow.
An interesting detail of Love Next Door was that Jung Somin cast the same actress to play both Me-ri and Bae-seok roles—an excellent link between the two series!
Yoon Jin Kyung (Shin Seul-ki), Woojoo’s close family doctor, appeared briefly but signalled potential trouble ahead. It seems she harbours feelings for Woo-joo, so seeing him with Me-ri did not sit well with her.
Kim Woo-joo (Seo Bum-june) began to realise what he’d lost from having an affair with Me-ri and travelling with Jenny; however, was this too late?
What to Expect in Would You Marry Me? Episode 5
Based on the preview for Would You Marry Me? Episode 5, and how Episode 4 ended, this Friday promises to be an emotional roller coaster ride.
Woo-joo is now aware that Me-ri was his childhood hero; however, Me-ri is unaware of their connection. In the clip shown, Woo joo looks upon Me-ri with fresh eyes filled with feelings of love and compassion; his new knowledge will alter his thinking regarding their fake wedding arrangements; no longer simply helping someone claim an apartment, but rather protecting someone who helped him through an otherwise stressful period in his life.
This episode 5 should reveal more of Woo-joo’s childhood trauma. His parents died tragically in a car crash, which led him to meet Me-ri for the first time. Choi Wooshik has done an outstanding job portraying Woo-joo’s secret agony, and it will likely provide us with even greater insights into his character.
Me-ri’s ex-fiancé Seo Bum-june is making moves. In the clip below, he attempts to reach Me-ri and claims that he chose her for himself and is seeking her return. However, Seo Bum-june’s behaviour seems unpredictable. Is he regretful or seeking other motives? Whatever it may be, Seo Bum-june’s return poses another difficulty for their fake marriage situation.
Sang-hyun, a department store manager, is investigating whether Me-ri and Woo-joo are indeed married. Bae Na-ra’s sensitive personality has noted any discrepancies between their accounts, suggesting they could soon uncover the truth, which would cause Me-ri to lose the townhouse she purchased for herself. The trailer shows this might happen.
Before their trip as department store presidents, Me-ri and Woo-joo must appear even more convincing as newlyweds. While the pressure mounts, all this faking has only brought them closer together. Their relationship has grown stronger with each passing episode; their bond becomes even more genuine.
Yoon Jin-kyung could make her feelings for Woojoo more evident. At the same time, Shin Seul-ki’s character stands back and watches Woo-joo’s relationship with Me-ri from a distance – potentially setting up an unlikely love triangle scenario.
Would You Marry Me? Episode 5 Spoilers
Be warned: There will be spoilers abound in Would You Marry Me? Episode 5!
Episode 5 finds Woo-joo struggling to understand Me-ri’s true identity. He attempts to inform her of their shared childhood history, but is concerned about her response; does she remember the day and think he is helping due to any past connection rather than genuine feelings developing now?
Me-ri is noticing that Woo-joo’s behaviour towards her has altered, becoming more cautious and sensitive in her presence. Yet, she cannot comprehend why this change in their relationship has occurred. Jung So-min beautifully captures Me-ri’s confusion as she attempts to understand this development in their relationship; these new thoughts could become frightening for someone recently betrayed.
When the president of a department store arrives, chaos ensues. Woo-joo and Me-ri must prove they’re romantically infatuated to both Sang-hyun and higher ups at work, convincing both to admit to loving one another. A scene in which they’re put on the spot to explain their attraction holds greater truth than either character realises; viewers will sense emotional undertones even if neither character knows what’s at play at first glance.
Kim Woojoo confronts Me-ri directly and begs for another chance at love with Jenny. He claims his relationship was meaningless and that any mistake made was disastrous. Me-ri’s reaction is strong: she refuses to accept such treatment, having experienced Woo-joo’s new look, which taught her what respect and love are like.
Woo-joo’s grandma, Joo Pil-nyeon (Jung Ae-ri), has slowly begun to warm up to Me-ri after spending more time together. She understands why Woo-joo tied the knot so quickly; seeing his mother happy brings him peace he has not felt since both parents had passed.
Woo-joo admires Me-ri’s old photographs when he suddenly finds himself almost telling her about their time together – only he stops short in that last second – with Choi Woo-shik and Jung Somin providing performances that speak without words.
Jin-kyung takes an ambitious step by inviting Woo-joo to dinner to investigate whether his relationship with Me-ri is genuine. When Woo-joo refuses, his explanation is shocking: not wanting to harm Me-ri’s feelings is his reason! With such an unexpected response, their fake marriage starts looking increasingly preposterous.
Me-ri stumbles across something that could shed some light on Woo-joo’s past; she gifts him a Teddy bear, which has since been kept inside his room. However, it all fades to black as episode 5 comes to an end, and viewers eagerly anticipate episode 6.

Why This Episode Matters
Would You Marry Me? Episode 5 marks a key turning point in the plot, fundamentally altering both characters. What started off as an artificial relationship soon becomes something real, while their relationships with children bring depth to the show that elevates it from typical romantic comedies.
Jung So-min’s performance as Yoo Me-ri in Love Next Door raised high expectations, yet she has exceeded them all with this performance. Her portrayal of Me-ri’s journey from being devastated to finding strength and worth through Woo-joo is masterful; each facial expression tells its own tale. Every facial expression gives us insight into her inner turmoil as you watch the walls around her heart weaken with every encounter she shares with him.

Choi Woo-shik lends his charisma to Kim Woojoo in Parasite, Our Beloved Summer, and Train to Busan. He excels at playing characters with multiple layers—Woojoo may seem intelligent on the surface while suffering from deep childhood trauma below; Choi Wooshik skillfully layers these elements for an unforgettable performance that leaves viewers rooting for him!
Jung Somin and Choi Wooshik’s electric, rare connection makes this film irresistible; their audiences have already begun calling them the King and Queen of Romantic Comedies; it is hard to disagree with them!
Other cast members should also be acknowledged. Seo Bum-june stands out for being an intriguing character without becoming too likeable; Bae Na-ra adds depth and nuance to Bae’s character; Shin Seul-ki, as Jin Kyung, adds layers to what was just an adversarial rivalry.
Song Hyunwook and Hwang In-hyeok’s directors do an outstanding job controlling the pace. With just 12 shows, no extra actors were needed as each scene tells its own narrative arc. Comedy meets emotional depth incredibly effectively: from laughter one minute to tears in another!
Lee Ha-na deserves praise for embracing the familiar “fake marriage” storyline with fresh vitality and adding two children as central figures without their relationship being forced or unnecessary. Instead, their relationships integrate smoothly into the plotline without undermining or weakening current romances.
What sets Would You Marry Me apart from other romantic comedies is the story at its core. Yes, there’s the luxury townhouse and 90-day timeline which create external pressure but, at its heart, this movie’s tale centers around two people who have been hurt and are finding strength again in one another – Me-ri was hurt by someone close while Woo-joo lost both parents in tragic accidents; their fake marriage offers both of them an unsafe space in which to heal themselves and reconnect.
Episode 5 promises to expand on emotional depth and humor, providing viewers with an enjoyable viewing experience. As Me-ri discovers her childhood is connected to adulthood, we cannot wait to witness how she deals with it all—making the wait well worth it!
Would You Marry Me? Episode 5 will air this Friday, and it promises to be an intense rollercoaster ride. Having quickly become one of the top rom-coms of 2025, its fifth episode should remind viewers why they were initially drawn in.
