Walking on Thin Ice Ep 9: Kang Eun-Soo's Last-Ditch Effort to Protect Her Family
Just finished watching Walking on Thin Ice episode 9, and I am completely taken aback. Multiple twists completely upended the storyline, and Lee Young-ae’s performance here was remarkable; its emotional depth cannot be rivaled anywhere on TV right now.
Episode 9 will air this weekend on Saturday, October 18th, at 9:20 pm KST, and “Walking on Thin Ice” is sure to impress audiences once more. Kim Young-kwang and Lee Young-ae’s romance can be emotionally exhausting while Park Yong-woo’s transformation from villain to detective continues alarmingly.
Recap of Episode 8
I want to remind everyone of the current state of affairs. Episode 8 revealed that Jang Tae-goo (Park Yon-woo), played by Park Yon-woo as the Narcotics Detective, was actually in control and blackmailing both Kang Eun-soo and Lee Kyung while offering bribes throughout all police departments.
Kang Eun-soo was shocked to learn in episode 8 of “Walking on Thin Ice” that Lee Kyung has been lying about his intentions – specifically, seeking revenge against Kang Hwi-rim over an event that occurred 10 years prior. Furthermore, Lee Kyung has used Eun-soo for his revenge plan without her knowledge or consent.
Episode 8 generated the highest level of tension before its conclusion. Eun-soo’s betrayal threatened Lee Kyung’s carefully laid plans of revenge, creating the greatest level of tension possible before its finale.
What Happens While Walking on Thin Ice, Episode 9
Jang Tae-goo begins the show by providing Kang Eun-soo with shocking evidence: photos that reveal the truth about her life. Eun-soo is overcome with emotion when presented with this undisputed evidence and begins sobbing when exposed to it in episode 9. Walking on Thin Ice, episode 9, provides a vivid representation of this emotional toll she must carry as a result of what she discovers.
At approximately twenty minutes into episode 9, Lee Kyung and Kang Hwi-rim’s intertwined history begins to come into focus, dating back ten years, as an incident that caused immense harm to Lee Kyung finally gets explained. Episode 9, entitled “Walking on Thin Ice”, shows how past trauma forms the basis for current motivations towards revenge; tragedy serves as an unexpected link between characters in ways nobody could have anticipated.
Lee Kyung takes one last bold move against Kang Hwi-rim’s family, determined to complete his decade-long quest for revenge against them regardless of the consequences. Hwi-rim soon begins suspecting Lee Kyung’s true identity and starts tracking him secretly, becoming his hunter in shocking and horrifying ways.
Jang Tae-goo is planning an elaborate trap for Eun-soo and Lee Kyung simultaneously. He goes to Eun-soo’s home along with Choi Kyung-do, a detective. Once there, they begin asking her questions about her feelings towards “James”. Tae-goo seems to have put everything together; Walking On Thin Ice episode 9 depicts this momentously closing of walls around both criminals at once.
Spoilers for Walking on Thin Ice Episode 9
At this point, things become truly fascinating. Walking on Thin Ice 9 depicts Eun-soo as she visits Yang Mi-yeon in the hospital. After learning of Mi-yeon’s deadly secrets, Eun-soo is overcome with fear and guilt as she realizes she has reached a point beyond which she cannot turn back.
Lee Kyung does not abandon his quest for revenge upon learning of Tae-goo’s identity as a blackmailer; he goes straight to Kang Hwi-rim’s residence to strike the final blow; however, Tae-goo manages to catch him and completely turn the tables against Lee Kyung. Walking on Thin Ice is episode 9’s depiction of how each character’s desires explode with devastating effect.
Production team promised that Eun-soo, Lee Kyung, and Tae-goo would all experience consequences of their choices in episode 9 of Walking on Thin Ice with devastating force. Walking on Thin Ice delivers on that promise spectacularly.

Kang Eun-soo finally explodes with anger upon realizing Lee Kyung had been keeping all her secrets from her, believing he used her to gain revenge against someone. After considering all their options, she decides not to continue their relationship and vows instead to face its consequences alone.
Character Development in Walking on Thin Ice Episode 9
Lee Young-ae’s Kang Eun-soo has undergone an amazing transformation in this episode, transitioning from desperate housewife to someone confronting unsettling truths about herself. Her actions during those moments of realization are amazing, while her emotional vulnerability makes for powerful viewing.
Kim Young-kwang’s Lee Kyung finally reveals why revenge was his sole driving force in life for ten years, as justified by an unpleasant past and horrific backstory. Yet episode 9 makes clear that his actions were morally indefensible. Understanding motivation does not excuse harmful acts.
Park Yong-woo’s Jang Tae-goo completes his transformation into a full antagonist in Episode 7. After previously being revealed as fraudulent in Episode 7, he now controls all aspects of life as a puppet master, showing why his motives go beyond mere greed, rather tangled up with those of his own father.
Park Do-jin of Bae Soo-bin remains bedridden, but his presence is felt throughout. A diagnosis of pancreatic cancer has sent everything spinning downward. His impact on his character cannot be denied despite limited screen time.
Eun-soo’s supporting cast also bears the consequences of her decisions, with Yang Mi-yeon (Jo Yeon-hee) suffering serious repercussions. At the same time, Kwon Ji-woo’s detective Choi Kyung-do investigates corruption alongside Tae-goo – each character adding depth to the three primary protagonists.
Why Walking on Thin Ice Episode 9 Resonates So Vividly
Walking on Thin Ice episode 9 achieves its objective through relentless pacing and emotional authenticity, not simply with simplistic crime thriller-esque storytelling techniques. Each character acts with clear motivations even when making unwise choices.
The story doesn’t provide an easy path to forgiveness. Characters cannot simply apologize and move on. Episode 9 illustrates this point with its depiction of crossing lines being fatal; rather than overdramatized, it feels realistic and devastating.
Cinematography is an effective way of conveying emotion. Dim lighting highlights moral darkness that plagues characters, while close-ups depict internal turmoil on actors’ faces and convey messages that words alone cannot. Cinematic language conveys things dialogue cannot, creating an immersive viewing experience.
