No Next Life - What This Midlife Crisis Drama Is Really About
No Next Life, the Korean drama featuring three women in their 40s who are exhausted from work and family obligations, made me tired just reading about it! The show premieres on November 10, 2025, on TV Chosun at 10 pm.
Additionally, this rom-com isn’t your traditional romantic comedy that features perfect characters living fantasy lives; instead, it’s refreshingly realistic and explores all the messy parts of midlife. Furthermore, just the casting has me excited; Kim Hee Sun, Han Hye Jin, and Jin Seo Yoon star as three best friends; star power in an acting trio I can get behind!
What Is No Next Life All About?
Let me quickly lay out the story’s premise. It begins with Jo Na Jung once declaring marriage a curse and those who marry are idiots; what was unexpectedly revealed was her breaking her vow of never marrying and doing precisely what she said she would never do! Now married with two young sons and exhausted every day. Her two best friends have also been struggling in their 40s. Previously, Jo Na Jung used to become a home shopping host, making millions of won; giving up this career path for full-time motherhood, but now wants back into it while keeping her realities and desires in check.
Irony can be funny and accessible at the same time, and No Next Life shows its growth journey together. Written and created by Seong Do Joon and Shin Yi Won, respectively, who previously collaborated on Uncle the Green Mothers’ Club and Uncle Green Mothers’ Club, respectively. We can tell that these creators know how to balance comedy with heartfelt storytelling by their choice of title, “No Next Life!” The title itself speaks volumes – its message being clear that life doesn’t wait!
Who Are the Three Women in No Next Life?
Kim Hee Sun portrays Jo Na Jung, a former home shopping show’s top host who transitioned into domestic life as an average housewife. While her former life may have been exciting and fulfilling before marriage and children came along, she now finds herself wrestling with domestic chaos while wanting it back as she confronts reality head-on. Additionally, Kim Hee Sun was recently seen in Bitter Sweet Hell, further demonstrating her versatility. Han Hye Jin stars as Gu Joo Young, who is an experienced director of planning at Korea’s top art center.
Unbeknownst to her, Joo Young lives a seemingly happy and blissful life, yet is deeply frustrated due to her husband’s lack of sexual interest and infertility issues. Additionally, she’s experiencing difficulty conceiving an infant, which causes extreme emotional turmoil; Joo Young begins questioning whether it is worth continuing to try altogether. Han Hye Jin was previously featured as Joo Young in Divorce Attorney Shin and Mothers films. At the same time, Jin Seo Yeon plays Lee Il Ri, an ambitious senior editor from a fashion magazine.
As Lee Il Ri is young and successful, she may seem in control. But underneath that glam exterior lies unrequited romantic feelings for Jin Seo Yeon, who has featured in Family Matters and One the Woman before; three characters from these series represent different challenges faced by women during their 50s, so viewers of all backgrounds should find people they identify with within this series.
Why Is No Next Life Getting So Much Buzz?
No Next Life explores topics we rarely see on K-dramas; most tend to focus on young romance or revenge plots. No Next Life takes an unconventional approach by showing middle-aged women’s lives from birth until death, and was explicitly designed to resonate with female audiences between 20 and 50. The producers stated this story could reach women from both generations.

Also dubbed as a “humanistic womance drama”, Green Mothers’ Club centers around female friendship. Director Seong Dojoon is well-regarded for his emotive and heartwarming narration in Uncle, while writer Shin Yi Won won praise for her well-written and emotional script for Green Mothers’ Club. Overall, this creative team knows how to handle sensitive subjects with humor while casting suitable actors for these complicated roles.
Reading of the script by actors revealed their enthusiasm and perfect acting chemistry. Furthermore, this show explores subjects such as sexually-free marriages and career compromises honestly – topics sure to spark conversations online.
What Makes the Supporting Cast Special?
Supporting characters add another layer to this tale, with Yoon Bak starring both as Jo Na Jung’s husband and as No Won Bin’s personal shopper for shopping at home. Yoon portrayed both pride and pressure associated with being a father with ease.
Heo Joon Suk plays Byun Sang Gyu, a university theater club senior among female characters. Now serving as a physical therapist with subtle charisma, Moon Yoo Kang from When Life Gives You Tangerines is also involved with this drama and provides comic relief and emotional assistance, elevating production quality overall in this instance.
